Learning in Year 3

As we are beginning to approach the end of Term 1, we would love to share with you some of the amazing learning we have been doing in Year 3. It has certainly been busy. In week 7 and 8, we completed our first NAPLAN. We are very proud of the efforts all students put in. In week 8, we celebrated Harmony week. We buddied up with the year 6 students and spent Tuesday afternoon engaging in a variety of fun activities with them, discussing the diverse range of students and families we are lucky enough to have in our classes. Students especially enjoyed icing and decorating their Harmony Day biscuits and being invited to the Year 6’s shared lunch.

In English, we are learning about Persuasive texts. This week, we have gotten into groups and are creating an ad persuading people why they should come to our school. We have loved planning and filming our ad’s ready to show Mr Bowden. We are focussing on the importance of ending our ad’s with impact.

In Maths, we have continued working on Place Value. Students completed the 'Deca Tree Investigation' which had them working with numbers up to 1 million. We have also been researching populations of Australian States and Territories and comparing the capacity of different stadiums in Australia.

Across both Year 3 classes, we have been following the life cycle of our Year 3 pet, Caidance the Caterpillar. In week 7, Caidance cocooned and in week 8, turned into a beautiful butterfly. Students researched the life cycle and how we could best look after Caidance while she was in our care. All year 3 students gathered in the Vegetable Garden at our school to release Caidance onto the Apple Tree.
