Learning in Room 4 & 5
We are well under way into Term 2 now and have been working hard on new areas of learning.
In Writing, we are learning about narratives with a focus on the text Mad Magpie, written by Greg Dreise. We have begun looking at characters, the purpose of the text and literal and inferred meaning. We have really enjoyed exploring the connection to Aboriginal culture and role playing some of the characters in the book.
In Maths, the year 3’s have been learning different strategies to solve addition and subtraction. We have learnt about the importance of being able to represent our equations in concrete, pictorial and abstract ways, and then be able to explain our thinking. We will soon be moving onto multiplication and division.
Chemical science is our focus in Science this term. We have enjoyed experimenting with solids and liquids. In HaSS, we are looking at History. So far, we have discussed what history means to us and how historians study the past. In Art, we are going to be looking at Indigenous art. We will be focussing on symbols and patterns that are used throughout their culture. We will continue to work through the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum and the YouCanDoIt! Education program for Health.
This term promises to be a big one with some exciting things on the calendar for us. In week 5, the year 3’s will be heading to Rec in the West at Tauondi Aboriginal College in Port Adelaide, a community event held to promote Reconciliation. In week 6, we head into the city for a tour of Adelaide Oval and a walk around the Kaurna Trail as part of our HaSS learning. Footsteps is also under way, taking place each Friday for 4 weeks.
We look forward to another busy, but exciting term.
Miss Jess, Kate and the year 3’s.
