On the Thursday of Week 5—during Reconciliation Week—Room 4 and Room 5, along with Jess and some wonderful parent volunteers, went on a short train ride to Port Adelaide to attend Reconciliation in the West at Tauondi Aboriginal Community College. The event was a vibrant celebration of culture, community and connection, with over 60 interactive stalls, live music, workshops, and engaging activities that kept students excited and curious all day long.

Highlights from the day included:

• Bugs N Slugs: Students got up close with critters from the rainforest, desert, and beach, learning about the important role these insects play in our ecosystems, even in our own backyards!
• Nylon Zoo: Dressed in colourful native animal costumes, the children danced and then gathered inside a giant inflatable turtle to hear storytelling that celebrated culture and nature.
• The Colour Run: After enjoying a sausage sizzle lunch, students put on white shirts, hats, and sunnies and raced across the Tauondi oval in a flurry of coloured powder. Some students made it their mission to finish the race entirely coated in bright pinks, purples, yellows and greens—much to their delight!

It was a fantastic day out, full of energy, learning and laughter. We are very grateful to our School AET Jess for organising the excursion, and to our wonderful parent volunteers, Angela and Amber, for giving up their time to support the students throughout the day.

The excursion was a brilliant way to conclude Reconciliation Week at Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School. It complemented our school-wide Sorry Day reflections with the Grannies Group, a whole-school assembly led by the MALPA team, a powerful smoking ceremony conducted by Otis Carter, and a community picnic hosted by the Lighthouse City Mission.
