Dear Families,

Welcome to our final newsletter for the term. It’s been an extremely busy term. Thank you for the support that we continue to receive from our community. LPPS has continued to provide lots of opportunities for our students and we look forward to the second half of the year.

Today marks the start of NAIDOC week which will continue throughout the first week of the school holidays.

Staffing News

I will be taking Long Service leave from Monday 4th August (week 3) and return on Tuesday 2nd September (week 7). Whilst I am away, Leah Koen will be acting Principal and Fiona Prentice will be in the acting position of Deputy Principal.

Staff First Aid

18 of our staff members completed a “Providing First Aid in an Education and Care setting” course. First Aid for staff is updated every 3 years. The school also has a AED unit accessible from the front office in case of an emergency.

School Sport

Congratulations to Tyler H who has been selected in the Port SAPSASA Soccer team. He will participate in the state championships at West Beach, 6th August – 8th August.

Employee Recognition

It’s my pleasure to acknowledge the service of Karen Leaney who has been presented with her 30 Year Service Recognition Award.

The following staff have also received their awards for recognition to Public Education.

· Linda Ward – 20 year service award

· Skye Fletcher – 20 year service award

SSO’s play an integral role in schools, supporting students, teachers and the essential management of the school.

Outstanding Achievement Awards – Term 2

At the end of each term, two students from each class are nominated by their teacher to receive the Principal’s Outstanding Values Award. Each student will be presented with a certificate. The winners for Term 2 can be found in this newsletter.

Congratulations to all of them on such a successful term.

NAIDOC Awards

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

As we enter 2025, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

Attendance Award

This term we had quite a number of students who attended every day.

Jailah W was randomly selected for her 100% attendance in Term 2.

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to wish you all a happy and safe break and we look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday the 22nd July.
