Dear Families,
I am very proud of the way in which the children have settled back into school routines. We spent much of the first 2 weeks back setting up class routines and expectations and providing the children with strategies and tools to maximise their learning.
This week our literacy and numeracy blocks have commenced. We have very high expectations for all our children and are looking forward to seeing them thrive over the coming year.
QR codes
SA Health has a plan to gradually roll out the COVID Safe Check-in system across the state.
As such, the implementation and use of QR codes will be staggered in all South Australian schools and preschools, with a code now available for Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School.
All adults (including staff and parents) entering the site must check-in by scanning the QR code or completing the paper recording log.
Children and students do not need to check-in.
Please note the COVID Safe Check-in is purely for SA Health contact tracing purposes and doesn’t replace the normal visitor sign-in process. All guests should continue to sign in at the front office/reception on arrival.
Acquaintance Night
A reminder that Tuesday 23rd February evening is Acquaintance Night and our AGM.
Unlike previous years, this is an informal opportunity for Parents and Caregivers to meet their child’s classroom teacher, it will not be a teacher presentation. Parents will have the opportunity to arrange appointments with teachers at a later stage, should it be required. Teachers will communicate expectations and routines etc. via introduction letters and Seesaw. Students will have the opportunity to introduce Parents to their NIT teachers: PE- Cameron Staker, Indonesian- Karen Butcher, Music- Helen Biar and Technologies- Patrick Fisher.
Due to COVID restrictions we have provided 4 options for Parents to visit teachers, 6:00pm, 6:15pm, 6:30pm and 6:45pm.
Please ensure that all Parents scan the QR code at entry points to the school or register at the entry points to the buildings.

Year 6/7 Roles
This year we have set up new leadership roles for our year 6 & 7 students. The Le Fevre Peninsula PS Young Leaders Program has been expanded to enable the students to apply for positions such as Media Officers, Canteen Monitors, Resource Centre Officers, Student Mentors, Student Voice Executive, Environmental Officers, Graduation Committee & Public Relations Officers. Applications included addressing the job criteria as well as the option of providing referee statements. We have been overwhelmed by the number of applications. This is a very clear indication of the pride that these students have in their school and their passion to be school leaders.
Our Young Leaders Executive is one of our most important roles in the school. We are committed to having a strong representation from our students and empower them in decision making within the school.
All leadership positions will be finalised by Friday afternoon.
Visitors to School
It is very important that if you are collecting your child early, volunteering or coming into school at a time that is not the beginning or end of a day, that you enter through the front office and sign in. Children who need to leave early will be sent to the front office.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Week 3 Attendance Award
Congratulations to year 4 student Tahlia from Room 5 on winning our 100% attendance award for weeks 1-3. Tahlia is the lucky winner of a Boost Juice voucher compliments of Boost Juice.
Sincerely,
Bob
I can’t believe that it’s the end of week 3 already. All the students have made me feel so welcome and I am thoroughly loving being part of the community. Here are a few quick updates and also a few requests that I want to share with you.
We are working deliberately with the whole community to create safe mental health spaces in all our learning spaces for the students. As part of this we are working closely with the 6/7’s about the way we speak to each other and how to restore a relationship in the event it gets strained or broken.
We are about to launch Children’s University which is a fabulous Australia wide program that promotes life-long learning both inside and outside of formal settings. It is aimed at the year 3/4/5’s to start with in 2021 and it will grow as they progress through the years. More information will follow.
As many of you will know, Breakfast Club has started again and we are wanting to make it even stronger this year. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the students can access the canteen area on the left side to get a slice of yummy toast with Jam or Vegemite and even a cheese toastie when possible. This starts at 8.30 each morning.
We are wanting to grow towards opening every day, but to do so, we are in need of a few things.
A few more volunteers who can commit to a regular day or two a week.
A good working fridge that can be put in the canteen so we can store milk as we are hoping to expand our offerings.
Donations of unopened tins of Milo or Quick.
If you can help in any of these ways please see the office, so they can let me know.
Thank you LPPS Community for your gold coin donations to help support Surf Life Saving SA and raise vital funds for the organisation. Saving lives costs money, and we need your help to keep South Australians safe on our beaches.
We excitingly raised $200. However it is not too late to donate so if you wish please do so to the Front Office.
During our ‘Striving for Success’ program, Room 16 have focused on Growth Mindset. We read the story “The Koala Who Could” which is a story about taking risks and trying new things. We decided this year that Room 16 will be the “Courageous Koalas who Can” where we will focus on having a Growth Mindset. A Growth Mindset is when students see challenges as opportunities to grow because they understand that they can improve their abilities by pushing themselves. If something is hard, they understand it will push them to get better! They also understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process!
We also discussed what “Success” means and that it is not always being the best at something but instead success means “working hard to achieve a goal you have set.” Our next step was to create a personal goal we wish to achieve this term. Throughout the term, we will continue to monitor these as well as creating numeracy and literacy goals.
We know that reaching a goal can be challenging and we may face hurdles along the way. We brainstormed all the ‘negative thoughts’ we may come across that could negatively impact our learning. We then turned these negative thoughts into ones that demonstrate a “Growth Mindset” for example:
“I’m not good at this” --> “What am I missing?”
“I can’t make this any better!” --> “I can always improve if I keep trying!”
“I give up” --> “This may take some time and effort!”

Room 8 - Aim high, Stand tall, Get Spotted!
In Room 8 we have a special cuddle buddy called Rosie the Giraffe. Rosie comes from Monarto Safari Park. We think giraffes are pretty special because they are the tallest mammal in the world and each one has unique spots. We think we are unique too!
We have a saying in our class which is: Aim high, Stand tall, Get Spotted!
We will remember this throughout the year when trying to do our best with our learning, being proud of ourselves and being seen to be exhibiting positive qualities in our behaviour and work habits.
As a way of welcoming Rosie, we have made our own giraffes, shared giraffe books and also read giraffe poetry.

Room 8
Over the past few weeks, Room 17 have been creating 'Me Boxes' to show our classmates a little bit about ourselves. We then had to present them to the class. We have practised our public speaking. Many of us were nervous, but we looked at our 'Keys to Success', mainly Confidence, Persistence, Organisation and Resilience to prepare and present. We also used Getting Along because we were good audience members. Here are a few of our 'Me Boxes'.

On Wednesday some of the upper primary students got the option to be involved in the first baseball Shark Cup training. Students from Seaton HS taught us many baseball skills, such as throwing, hitting, catching and learning the basic baseball rules. We all really enjoyed doing the Shark Cup and learning baseball for the upcoming Shark Cup baseball carnival. My favourite part of the training so far was practicing hitting the ball off the tee with the baseball bat.

NRL Inspire Health and Wellbeing Assembly
On Wednesday 10th February our 3-7 students were involved in an 'NRL Inspire Health and Wellbeing' Assembly. Allan, Georgia and their team from the Canberra Raiders came along to share some information with us about being your best, reaching your goals and being resilient. They talked about 'If you don't win, you learn' and that 'A setback is an opportunity for a comeback'. These are all the key messages that our students have been focussing on in the last 2 weeks through our 'Striving for Success' Program. There were some important messages and fun cooperative challenges that our students loved.
In Week 2 we were lucky enough to have Dave Cohen from Rugby SA come to school and hold a clinic for years 3-7. Dave has been a regular visitor to our school for a number of years and the students always have a lot of fun learning new skills.
As a nice way to wrap up our two week 'Striving for Success' unit, we thought it would be nice to get all the 6/7 classes together for a sausage sizzle. It was also a nice way to start off a busy but very exciting year ahead. We have lots of fun things to look forward to, so watch this space!

The Smith Family supports long term participation in education through the provision of timely opportunities and support, enabling students to optimise their education outcomes. For this reason, The Smith Family offers Learning for Life Scholarships, Programs and Support throughout the primary, secondary and tertiary education years; an eligible student and family can continue to be part of Learning for Life throughout their schooling and post school vocational education.
Scholarships are awarded to students in financially disadvantaged families that have demonstrated their commitment to education and who would benefit from additional resources and support and who meet the referral criteria. To be eligible for the program, families are required to have a current Pension Concession or Health Care Card and demonstrate a strong commitment and engagement to education.
Yolanda Martinez, Family Partnership Coordinator, will be at the school, on a fortnightly basis, commencing Tuesday 9th February from 8.45 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. to meet with families, including Scholarship families and families interested in the Learning for Life programs offered by The Smith Family.
