Dear Families,
Welcome to our Week 3 Newsletter.
NAPLAN
This week we commenced the NAPLAN testing with our Year 3, 5 & 7’s. We have completed both the Writing and Reading tests. NAPLAN will continue next week with the Conventions of Language and Numeracy. Please reinforce to your child about remaining calm and just giving it their best. It is only one way of measuring their competence and is not something to stress over.
Illawonga Camp
The Year 6/7’s are getting excited about their upcoming camp to Illawonga in week 7. Students will receive more information in the next week about what to pack, activities and the itinerary. A friendly reminder that payment is due to the Front Office by the 27th of May.
Reconciliation Week
Week 5 & 6 is Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the Reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to Reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.
Find out more about National Reconciliation Week #MoreThanAWord #NRW2021
Our students will be undertaking various activities throughout the week in line with this year’s theme.
Sport Update
Congratulations to Emily who has been selected in the Port SAPSASA Year 7 Netball team. Emily will participate in the upcoming State Carnival 31st May – 2nd June.
Campbell recently participated in the Baseball SA Charter Championships as a member of the Adelaide Marlins. As a result of the carnival, the Marlins won through to the National Little League Championships to be held in Lismore, 9th – 14th June. Good luck.
Congratulations to Kenji who will be representing Port SAPSASA at the State Cross Country Championships at Oakbank on Thursday 10th June.
School soccer has started, Le Fevre has nominated 3 teams. Unfortunately we have been unable to provide a competition for our Seniors. The NWJSA only had 3 teams nominated, Largs,
Le Fevre and Westport. The competition was deemed to be unviable and despite discussions with other schools, NWJSA and FFSA, no alternative options were available.
Basketball has continued this term with the same teams as Term 1. Check your child's bag for the Term 2 registration invoice.
Thank you to all of the parents who have made themselves available to coach, score and manage teams.
SAPSASA Knock-out Competitions – Term 2/3
Le Fevre has nominated the following teams based on interest:
- Year 6 Boys basketball
- Year 7 Boys basketball
- Year 6/7 Netball
- Year 6/7 Boys Soccer
- Year 6/7 Girls Soccer
Cameron Staker is currently coordinating game times for each competition.
SAPPS Choir
We are very proud to say that one of our Year 7 students Serina in Room 17 was selected to be part of the South Australian Public Primary Schools (SAPPS) Choir. The choir recently performed at the Adelaide ANZAC Day Dawn Service held at the War Memorial in the city. Congratulations Serina!
Mid-Year Reporting
This year, our reports will be sent home on Friday 18th June (week 8). Parent-Teacher interviews will follow in week 9 of Term 2. Interview booking information will be available later in the term. If you have any concerns about your child's learning, please feel free to contact the classroom teacher and make an appointment.

G’Day LPPS community,
Here we are at the end of week 3 and below is a snapshot of what we have been doing Wellbeing wise.
We were successful in securing a $5,000 state-wide grant to go towards anti-bullying strategies and positive behaviour approaches. We plan to use the money on; Convex mirrors at the top of both sets of stairs to improve sight lines and reduce anxiety; new yard signage about positive behaviour expectations; a community mural and bright vests for our student mentors to wear at break times.
This term we started teaching a nationwide, evidenced based, Social Emotional Learning Program targeted across our Junior Primary years called What’s The Buzz. The program is aimed at helping students negotiate the challenges of sharing, taking turns and being resilient.
This term a few classes have volunteered to trial some of the key tenets of the BSEM – Berry Street Educational Approach in their classroom setting. Early reports are the students are thoroughly enjoying the greater relationship and the opportunities for student voice. We have 35 students enrolled in Children’s University and it is wonderful to see the enthusiasm and diversity in the learning opportunities that the participants are engaging with.
Let’s finish with a quote from an ancient Proverb “Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves for we shall never cease to be amused.”
Til next time,
Bronte Stanford

School Photo Day
All students should have received their school photo envelope on Wednesday. Family photo forms can be collected from the Front Office.
Order forms and payment must be brought on the day and given straight to MSP.
In late Term 1 and early Term 2, the Parent Group have been busy organising the annual Mother's Day Stall. This year we held the stall on Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 2, with many students supporting it. Gifts ranged from 50c - $10, with a huge range of affordable presents on offer. We were also lucky enough this year to have 17 hanging succulents and bird feeders donated to us which were very popular.
Through the hard work of our Parent Group and Young Leaders we managed to raise $344. A big thank you to all who helped out.
All students who purchased a gift received a raffle ticket and the winner received a Mother's Day Stall Goodie Bag. Congratulations to our winner Lachie from Room 5.

As a part of the InitialLit program each week we read a new storybook. Room’s 9 and 10 have loved reading so many funny and interesting books. Our favourite book was The Possum Goes to School by Melanie Carter. The story was about a possum who got lost at a school and ran around, creating havoc everywhere he went. In the end he found a nice tree to sleep in. We decided we would make our own version of the book. Check out some of the places the Possum visited at Le Fevre.

Reception Teaching Team
In Room 3, Ryan, our student teacher, has been creating many fun learning opportunities for us to do! In maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have learned about features of shapes including: edges, sides, corners and faces. We had fun trying to construct 3D shapes with straws and modelling clay!
On Wednesday, we got to experiment with trundle wheels and measuring tapes. We went outside and measured different areas of the school using appropriate measuring tools and units of measure for larger lengths. Room 3 had so much fun!

Variety Kids Club - Zoo Excursion
The students in Room 8 were extremely fortunate to attend a day at the Adelaide Zoo, courtesy of the well known charity, Variety.
We had a wonderful day exploring the nature playground and animals at the zoo. Our favourites were the monkeys, baboons, biodome and the reptile house. The playground was a big hit too! The students were given a snack pack on arrival with lots of yummy treats, saw clowns, characters and enjoyed a sausage sizzle. In addition to the zoo entry and food, Variety also provided transport for all students, staff and volunteers from many schools across Adelaide to get to and from the zoo. We are always grateful for the fun events they invite us to and the volunteers who enable the day to run smoothly.
Thank you Variety!

National Walk Safely to School Day
National Walk Safely to
School Day
Friday 14th May
Primary school-aged children across Australia will put their feet first this Friday 14th May. The event aims to raise awareness of the benefits that regular walking can provide for the long term well-being of our children.
Now in its 22nd year, the campaign also encourages improved diets, positive environmental action, better use of public transport with reduced car-dependency and the vitally important road safety message: "Until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road".
Congratulations to Patrick Fisher, our Digital Technologies teacher, on the safe arrival of their baby girl, Matilda! Both Mum and Bub are doing well.
We look forward to having Patrick join us back on Monday.
On Friday the 7th of May our school participated in a day where we could wear any sports colours or jerseys. This was because the AFL showdown between Port Adelaide and Adelaide was on the next day and Food Bank is a great sponsor for Port Adelaide. We asked students to bring in a gold coin and/or canned food that we will donate to Food Bank. We then counted the cans and money successfully, raising 385 cans and $100. The class that collected the most cans was Room 17, Mr Taylor’s class, with a whopping 47 cans but coming up close behind was Room 3, Miss Clark’s class raising 46 cans. It was a great day, collecting heaps of cans and money, for underprivileged people in SA and in the whole of Australia.

Please be advised that the school disco is a lock-in event for students only. Parents are required to drop off and pick up at finish time.
Supervisors at the disco will be made up of staff and Parent Group volunteers.
Thank you.
Recently Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School subscribed to online decodable readers for student use. These readers will be in lieu of take-home readers for many students, though some teachers may supplement this with additional readers, activities or resources. This will be at the classroom teacher's discretion.
All Reception, Year One and Two families should have received an email from ‘noreply@multilit.com’ with log on details for your child. These readers align with the InitiaLit literacy program which is being used in all Reception, Year One and Year Two classes. If you did not receive an email please contact Caitlin in the Front Office on 8449 6417. Decodable readers allow students to practice reading the letter and sound combinations they are learning in class, and to consolidate sounds they have learned previously to become fluent readers. Students are encouraged to access the readers at home as regularly as possible.
Students can access these readers via: https://library.multilit.com/

During lunch times this term, students have a range of options they can choose other than play in the yard. Our Student Wellbeing room is open Monday-Thursday for students to play in. There are board games, kinetic sand, an exercise bike and other fun activities. This has been very popular with students across the school.
We also have different lunchtime clubs operating each day as follows:
- Monday: Yr 4-7 Chess Club with Mr McGorman and Ms Bowe
- Tuesday: Yr 3-7 Choir Chimes with Ms Biar
- Wednesday: Rec-Yr 2 Lego with Ms Jones
- Thursday: Rec-Yr 7 Knockout Basketball/Soccer Competition
- Friday: Yr 3-7 Dance with Miss Amy
These have been very popular across the classes, with the clubs changing each term.
All people wanting to volunteer in schools need to attend a Volunteer Induction Course at the site. If you have attended one of these in 2019/20 you will not need to attend again this year. We have organised another session this term as follows:
Wednesday 19th May - 9-11am
If you would like to attend please RSVP on 8449 6417. Please understand that if you would like to volunteer in any capacity this year, you will need to attend this session. Thank you.
