Dear Families,
It’s been a really busy last few weeks. All families should have received report cards at the end of week 8 and had the opportunity to discuss their child’s learning at Parent/Teacher interviews. If you have not been able to make an interview time, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
We welcome a number of new students to our school who have enrolled in the last few weeks. Thank you to the students in the various classes who have supported and made the following students welcome; Krishna (Room 3), Felicity (Room 16) and Olivia (Room 18).
Camps
Special thanks to the teachers who organised, managed and supervised at the Year 6/7 Illawonga Camp. The students had a great time. By all reports, the caving expedition was a highlight. The values displayed by our students was to be commended. Staff were extremely impressed with their positive attitude and respectful behaviour.
Year 3, 4 and 5 students will also get the opportunity to participate in a 1 day/night camp at AFL MAX.
Room 19 and 22 classes will attend the camp from Wednesday 22nd September to Thursday 23rd September. (Term 3, Week 10)
Room 3, 4 & 5 will have the opportunity to attend from Wednesday 3rd November to Thursday 4th November. (Term 4, Week 4)
Further information will be distributed once numbers are confirmed. It’s great to provide these opportunities to our students and for them to be received in such a positive manner.
Facilities
Unfortunately the pirate ship was damaged by vandalism in the December school holiday period and after a safety audit we had to close it. The good news is that it is being repaired and renovated during the upcoming school holidays. We expect it to be open for play during Term 3. It is a very popular play space and we look forward to it being used again.

This fortnight in Reception we have been learning about measurement. We have measured objects around our classes using informal units like pop sticks, counters and stones. We measured our heads to make crowns for us and our teddies and worked out which was longer. Lastly, we measured how tall we were and compared them to see who was the tallest in the class. We have had so much fun!

Room 3 have been exploring fractions and decimals. We have participated in many fun activities! We have made fraction walls by folding coloured strips, used calculators and modelling clay to represent common fractions. We found this challenging as the denominator became bigger and our pieces became smaller! Room 3 remained persistent and resilient in this task. We loved using the modelling clay!

Congratulations to our seven year 6/7 students; Cooper, Lucas, Mason C, Carlin, Perry, Campbell and Mason A who have been involved in the SAPSASA Football Carnival this week.
In week 7, Rooms 17 and 18 went to the Illawonga Camp in Swan Reach. We spent 2 nights there enjoying fun activities such as archery, go karts, cave expeditions, boat rides, a maze and trailer rides. We all enjoyed gymnastics, where we got to play games in the foam pit. Most people found the caving to be challenging as they had never experienced it before.
We had many amazing meals including tacos for lunch, spaghetti for dinner and vanilla ice-cream with peaches for dessert.
We had the most amazing instructors who would set up challenges for us and tell us stories about the places we explored, including fossils from the cave that were 21 million years old. Could you believe that? We even got to keep 1 fossil to bring home!
The boat rides were a highlight of our camp experience. We learnt about the Murray River, types of fish that live there, such as the infestation of Karp. At the end of the boat rides some of the kids were chosen to drive the boat (with the safety of the instructors help).
At the end of camp we had to say goodbye to all the instructors, including their dog Buddy. We had the best time! - Mia and Lincoln
In Week 7, Rooms 20 and 21 went on an adventure to camp, we left on Wednesday and returned on Friday. We all had a lot of fun and loved every minute of it! We went caving, pedal carting, went on an exciting boat ride and even got to see sheep being shorn. We roasted marshmallows on the campfire and played games in the foam filled pit. Even the camp dog Buddy joined in! Miss Bowe and Mr McGorman even ended up in the pit! We all had a great experience and will cherish the memories we made in those three days forever. - Lila and Olive
Here’s some of our favourite memories:
The boat tour, caving, the gym and playing hide and seek in the dark were my favourite parts of camp! - Mia
I enjoyed being in the caves, crawling through tight spaces and searching for fossils. I also like when we got wet on the boat ride when we went really fast! - Archie
It was a great experience to see such wonderful things like Murray River and the sheep shearing. I had a great time! - Jake
Camp was really fun; my favourite part was the foam pit and the boat rides. The food wasn't the best though. - Hunter
It was a great experience to try new things. I really enjoyed riding on the speed boat and going in the foam pit in the gym! - Stavroula
When Cooper and I were trying to kick the footy together, the camp dog Buddy would jump in front of us and try to get the ball. He was always so happy when he was around Lucas! We did lots of things on camp that I’ve never done before! I had lots of fun! - Kade
I loved riding the pedal carts! The food was good and I had fun going through the haunted maze! - Austin

Every Thursday, a lunch time basketball competition has taken place. Everyone who competed displayed excellent sportsmanship and effort. The final consisted of two strong teams, Bamboo v the Champs. The final was close with great skills on display for everyone who was watching. Congratulations to Bamboo who eventually took home the silverware winning 8-4.
On Monday 21st of June, a team of year 5/6/7 girls and a team of 6/7 boys competed in a rugby league carnival. They competed in an 8 a-side competition with games against Brighton, West Beach, Salisbury North and Hackham East Primary School. Both teams showed incredible effort and sportsmanship, they displayed outstanding teamwork and some individual brilliance as well.
Congratulations to Nalani (R21) and Rhys (R18) who won the sportsmanship awards for their respective teams.
