Dear Parents/Caregivers,
That was an interesting start to Term 3! Congratulations to the students who participated in home learning throughout the lockdown. It was fantastic to see so many students engaged in the learning programmes delivered by our teachers. I really enjoyed dropping in on the Webex meetings each day. The Webex meetings gave opportunities for teachers to record attendance but also for the students to catch up with each other. Many of the teachers used this time to explicitly teach literacy lessons to the class. Credit goes to the teachers who seamlessly moved into online learning with such short notice. The feedback from families has been extremely positive about the quality of the programmes and accessibility of staff during that time.
Thank you to everyone for your support.
Staffing Update
Jake Taylor is on family leave. He is spending some quality time with his family after the arrival of their little boy Hamish. Ayden Roberts will continue with Jakes learning programme.
Victoria Jones is on long service leave for Term 3 and is replaced by Jess Searle (0.8)
Fiona Prentice is on long service leave for Term 3. We look forward to her return in Term 4.
We welcome Skye Fletcher who has been appointed to LPPS (0.4) through the Department for Education placement process. Skye will work in Room 16 on Thursdays and Fridays for the remainder of the year.
Shelley Scott becomes our Intervention and Engagement Coordinator. She will work with targeted groups of students.
Grounds and Facilities
Over the holidays we have had the old yellow doors on building 1 replaced. The upgrade provides better access, visibility and improved aesthetics to the building. The windows in Room 2 have also been replaced as part of our ongoing maintenance programme.
The pirate ship was badly damaged earlier in the year, unfortunately much of the structure had severely deteriorated. Climbing Tree have started on it’s refurbishment. It is hoped that it will be open for play by the time you receive this newsletter.
We expect that work will also begin on a new fence and gate at the end of building 3 (near the carpark). The new fencing and gate will provide safer access to the yard for our students from the end of building 2 and greater security.

Sports Day
This year we plan to re-establish the Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School Sports Day, to be held on Friday 10th September.
We have decided to reduce the number of teams to 3, Red, Blue and Yellow. This will enable teams to be easily managed on the day.
The school has purchased a new shield to recognise the winning team. Students will be allocated a team colour with new team names still to be decided.
Students will receive a letter today indicating which team they belong to. We have tried to ensure that all family members are in the same team. Please let us know if there is a particular issue that we have overlooked.
Our year 6/7’s will have the opportunity to apply to be house captains within the next week. Mr Staker and the Sports Day committee is currently working on the programme and event schedule.
We look forward to providing this opportunity to our community.
Well what an interesting start to the term! No one would ever have thought that 2 days into Term 3, the state would go into lockdown and we would make a return to home learning. I would like to extend a big thank you to all of our teachers who worked tirelessly to engage our students and connect with them over a range of mediums. Thank you to all of our families who were supportive, flexible and embraced the learning that was happening across the school.
We saw some wonderful examples of students learning from home and below are some photos to show you all of the amazing things that were happening.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
In Room 14 we celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. This year's theme was 'Proud in Culture, strong in Spirit.
We had fun making dolphin mobiles designed by an Aboriginal artist. We used the colours from the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander flags to decorate our artwork.
Simon took up rowing as a way to exercise and within two years the father of four was selected in the 2021 Australian Rowing Team in the PR2 Mixed Double Scull. He won the PR2 Men’s Single Scull Championship of Australia in 2021 and has combined with Kathryn Ross in the PR2 Mixed Double Scull to secure a place on the Australian Paralympic Team for the Tokyo Games.
