Dear Parent/Caregivers,
What a start to Term 3. We have just completed 4 days of water safety with our R-5 students. Thank you to the staff who have supervised throughout the week and also to Leah who has coordinated the program. It is quite a task to manage the buses, supervision, rearrange NIT programs and yard duties. Feedback from staff and swimming instructors has been really positive. It’s great to acknowledge the values that our students demonstrate daily.
Year 6 students also had an opportunity to visit Le Fevre High School last week to experience a “taste of high school”. This is the beginning of a process to support the students to transition successfully to secondary education in 2023.
The year 5/6 students will be attending camp at Arbury Park next week from Monday – Wednesday. The students are really excited, as are the attending staff. Arbury Park is a camp managed by the Department for Education and provides a range of experiences and activities related to team building and understanding the ecology of the Adelaide Hills.
Get excited for Book Week! As well as our regular “Book Week Parade” on Friday 26th August at 9am, we will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. This is a great opportunity to purchase reading material for your family. The Book Fair will be open from Friday 19th August - Wednesday 24th August (8:30 – 8:45am and 3 – 3:30pm)
The Book Fair will be held in room 3, just follow the signs! We would love parent volunteers, if you are available to help please let Jeanette or Caitlin know.
Governing Council Special Resolution Meeting – Monday 29th August at 6pm
Now that we have transitioned to a Reception – Year 6 school, there are 2 of amendments to the Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School constitution that are required related to the total membership of the Governing Council due to reduced enrolments.
The purpose of the special resolution meeting is to discuss the following motion to amend the constitution.
Special resolution motion:
- that clause 7.1 of the constitution be amended by deleting ‘2’ and inserting ‘1’ staff member (nominated by the staff of the school).
- That clause 7.1 of the constitution be amended by deleting ‘2” and inserting ‘1’ community member appointed by the council
Effect of change: that the Staff members of LeFevre Peninsula Primary School Governing Council will decrease from 2 staff members and 2 community members to 1 staff member and 1 community member. This change will decrease the total membership on council to 12
Grounds and Facilities
Over the holidays building 2 has been repainted, minor repairs completed and windows fixed to allow for better ventilation. It definitely looks a lot fresher. We were also able to replace some of the fencing on Shorney St, improving both the aesthetics and safety for our students. Governing Council is currently compiling a “wish list” for further school improvements. Please feel free to provide some ideas for future planning.

Vale Errol Chinner
As a staff we would like to acknowledge the passing of a past Principal, Errol Chinner. Errol served as the Principal of Le Fevre Peninsula PS between 1975-1979. He was very passionate about the school and spent a considerable amount of time compiling the history of Le Fevre PS. He was a kind man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Our thoughts go out to Errol's family during this difficult time.
Kind Regards,
Bob
This week our Reception to Year 5 students completed the Water Safety Program at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. It was fabulous to see so many smiling faces and the new skills learnt. Here is a few things students had to say about their time at Swimming:
“The best part of swimming is diving for the sinkers” Room 5
“This was the BEST week ever” Room 9
“I haven't been swimming here before, I want to do this forever.” Room 16
“The instructors were awesome” Room 22
“I loved swimming because we got to learn new swimming skills” Room 22
On Thursday the 4th of August all Year 6s from Rooms 20 and 21 had a trip to Le Fevre High School. At 9am both classes got on the bus and we arrived at approximately 9:10am. When we arrived Mr McGorman’s class and Miss Bowe’s class got put into 2 groups and went off to do the activities.
Room 20 went to the Science room first. All the students in the class got given a booklet with instructions on how to mix liquids and solids to make chemical reactions safely. The students split up into pairs and used test tubes and mixed liquids to create chemical reactions.
Room 21 went to the Geography room. All students were given a map of the world with all the lines of latitude and longitude, we learnt about the different hemispheres. Later we had to do a worksheet on mapping and had to use the lines of longitude and latitude to find the location.
After our lessons both classes got taken on a tour around the school. Each class had their very own tour guide – some past Le Fevre students who were very helpful showing us around the school and answering our questions about the classrooms, yard and all other areas of the school.
After our lessons and tour we had recess that included muffins and fruit which the school had provided for us. After recess both classes had a P.E. lesson. We played a soccer game with some of the students from the soccer academy at Le Fevre HS and also a game of tag to start and finish off the lesson.
Before we went back to school the students from Le Fevre HS lead both groups to the theatre room and talked to us about what our first day/week at high school would be like and they told us everything we needed to know about coming to high school. Before we ended they answered any questions we had and told us about transition days if you were planning on going there. Overall it was a fun and exciting experience and we all learnt a lot.

On Thursday 28th July the year 2s and 3s went to Patch Theatre Company to watch a play. We walked over the bridge into Port Adelaide and were very excited about what was ahead. When we got there, everyone had to sit down on some mats and watch the actors get ready. The play was about a mystery door with magical places behind it. Some of us even got chosen in the audience to go on stage and dance and do other cool things! My favourite part was when I got to go on stage on do some crazy dancing. It was so much fun!
Olivia N – Room 5
On Wednesday 3rd of August, a team of year 5/6 girls played a 9-a-side AFL carnival at Woodville West Torrens oval. The competition is called the Crows Cup and was attended by a variety of local schools.
The girls had a fantastic day, recording several wins, hundreds of tackles and plenty of goals! They had stacks of fun and to see the way their confidence built to have shots for goal, tackle the opposition and work as a team was very pleasing.
As a bonus for their efforts they walked away with a free drink bottle, AFLW Crows poster, hair scrunchie and AFLW Crows membership!
Hopefully next year we can enter two teams!
