Dear Parents and Caregivers,
What an amazing Sports Day!! It was fabulous to welcome back our families to enjoy the day.
Congratulations to the Blue team on winning our Sports Day! Only 2 points separated Blue and Yellow.
Thank you to all of the team captains who did an amazing job organising the team chants and the warm up routines. I was impressed with their organisation and enthusiasm.
It was great to see a traditional sports day for our school again. The students were fantastic all day.
Thanks to Mr Staker, Mr Fisher and the Sports day committee who coordinated the event. Thanks to the teachers and SSO’s who supervised and made the day so successful.
Ms Leah and the Parent Group added a splash of colour to the day by selling sports team coloured accessories.
2023 Classes
At the moment, we are beginning to look at numbers of children for 2023 so that we can begin the class placement process. It would help our planning if you know of any changes for next year (eg if you are moving etc and not planning on returning to Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School) if you could let the Front Office know as soon as possible.
Also, if you know of any families considering enrolling at Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School for next year, could you please let them know to contact us at their earliest convenience.
Finally, if you have any specific requests for the placement of your child, (friendships etc) please put them in writing to me using the note that will be sent home on Monday. These requests need to be handed in no later than Friday 21st October (Term 4, Week 1) or can be emailed to me directly at bob.bowden832@schools.sa.edu.au.
Please note that while requests are taken into consideration, there are no guarantees that they can be acted upon.
Thank you for your support.
NAPLAN 2022
Next week the school will send home the NAPLAN results for our Year 3 and 5 students. This is the first time both cohorts of students have completed NAPLAN. Included in the envelope will be a copy of your child’s National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results for 2022.
These tests are administered nationally to all students in years 3, 5, 7 & 9.
The NAPLAN provides a snap shot of your child’s achievements in comparison to other students of the same year level in Australia.
NAPLAN is just one measure of your child’s performance. Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School uses various tests or measures of achievement in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. The results of these assist in providing learning programmes for students and are reported to parents through our written reports in Terms 2 and 4.
Should you wish to discuss your child’s NAPLAN results, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting time.
Sports News
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those children that have been involved in weekend sports finals. It is a rare opportunity that we get to play in finals and is something they will remember for a long time.
Congratulations to our 27 students who competed in the District Cross Country trials at Semaphore earlier in the week.
Special thanks to Mr Fisher and Mr Staker for the training sessions and selecting the team.
Recently 5 of our students participated in the SAPSASA Table tennis Championships. Well done to Clay, Rundle, Albert, Fergus and Hugh. Also, thank you to Sarah G who transported and supervised the students at the event. I received feedback from another school about our students and the positive values that they displayed throughout the day. It is fantastic when we receive such wonderful information about our students.
Last Day of Term
With the end of term rapidly approaching, a reminder that we finish at 2.00pm on Friday 30th September.
Term 4 will resume on Monday 17th October.
Kind Regards,
Bob
In Room 5 we have been learning about money in Maths. We are learning to add money together as well as calculate correct change. We have been using concrete materials such as coins and notes to help support our understanding. We have also learnt about the importance of money in our everyday lives.
Room 14 have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes in mathematics. We have used manipulatives to support our conceptual understanding. Last week we worked in pairs to build a simple structure, which turned out not to be so simple after all. The goal was to use a range of shapes and use them in a way that would make the building strong.
From here, Miss McKay took a photo of our constructions and stuck them in our books. We were then challenged to draw a detailed and accurate sketch of our building. We then wrote a list of the shapes we used and justified our building design to the class by showing our work. We reflected on what worked and what we could change next time. This was a fun task and took collaboration, persistence and critical thinking.
Room 15 and Room 16 have been exploring in HASS this term what our local area looked like in the past. We examined old photographs of the school and local streets. We looked at what has changed and what is still here. We also visualised what the Port River may have looked like based on the stories passed down through generations of Aboriginal people who have lived on Kaurna land.
In Room 18 in Mathematics, we have been learning about decimals and fractions and how they are both linked together. For example: 0.5 is the equivalent to 50%.
First, we had a list of decimals and had to represent them by shading grids to show the fraction, then we learnt how to multiply and divide decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. As we progressed, we made a number line and got to draw on our desks to show which decimals were smaller and what were larger.
This week we got into groups and competed against other teams in an escape room task. Miss Olivia gave us task cards and we had to use our knowledge of decimals and fractions to complete the missions to crack the code and move onto the next stage and escape.
