Dear Families,
I am very proud of the way in which the children have settled back into school routines. We spent much of the first 2 weeks back setting up class routines and expectations and providing the children with strategies and tools to maximise their learning.
This week our literacy and numeracy blocks have commenced. We have very high expectations for all our children and are looking forward to seeing them thrive over the coming year.
Staffing News
Last week we welcomed Emma de Brabant as our Indonesian teacher for Semester 1. Karen Butcher will be taking some well earned long service leave. We hope that the students have made Emma feel welcome.

Students will have the opportunity to introduce parents to their NIT teachers: PE- Amanda Nelson, Indonesian- Emma de Brabant, Music- Helen Biar and Technologies- Toni Zuanic.

The Governing Council for Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School must comprise of 8 elected parents of the school.
- We have 7 vacancies available for nomination. Should there be more nominations than the number of vacancies to be filled, ballot conditions apply.
Tenures are for a maximum of 2 years.
If you are interested in being a member of our Governing Council, please see the Front Office for a Nomination Form.
Looking forward to seeing you on the night.
Year 5/6 Roles
This year we have set up leadership roles for our Year 5 and 6 students. The Le Fevre Peninsula PS Young Leaders Program has been expanded to enable the students to apply for positions such as Canteen Monitors, Resource Centre Officers, Student Mentors, Student Voice Executive, Environmental Officers, Sports Monitors, Graduation Committee & Public Relations Officers. Applications included addressing the job criteria as well as the option of providing referee statements. We look forward to providing these leadership opportunities to our students.
Our Young Leaders Executive is one of our most important roles in the school. We are committed to having a strong representation from our students and empower them in decision making within the school.
All leadership positions will be finalised next week.
Visitors to School
It is very important that if you are collecting your child early, volunteering or coming into school at a time that is not the beginning or end of a day, that you enter through the Front Office and sign in. Children who need to leave early will be sent to the Front Office.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Building 3 Update
I am currently working with a project manager from DfE to determine the possible scope of works.
We have had a number of architects visit and look at our learning spaces.
They will create some concept plans for us to consider that will cater for modern teaching and learning methodologies.
Watch this space! It’s exciting.

From 2023 each student’s NAPLAN report will show how they are tracking against 4 levels of achievement, known as proficiency standards. These will replace the 10 NAPLAN bands.
The standards are:
- Exceeding
- Strong
- Developing
- Needs additional support
The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy expected for the child at the time of testing.
Reporting will include clear descriptions for teachers and families about student progress against these levels of achievement. Those descriptions will be developed by expert teachers.
It’s important to note that the NAPLAN test itself is not changing.
Changes to NAPLAN reporting have implications for how the historical time series for NAPLAN results are used. ACARA will explore the feasibility of comparative or research studies using data from previous time series.
For school improvement planning, guidance on how targets can be written and aligned to these new proficiency levels will be developed in preparation for 2024.
More information about changes to NAPLAN will be provided in the coming weeks.
NAPLAN will be held from 15 to 27 March 2023 (weeks 7 to 9, Term 1).
