Dear Families,
I am amazed at how quickly the year has progressed. The term planner looks really busy with plenty of exciting activities planned for the remainder of term
Year 3 AFL MAX Camp
What a great way to finish term 3 for our year 3 students. Everyone had a great time and reports back from both teachers and camp staff indicated everyone displayed our school values throughout the 2 days. It’s always great when we get such positive feedback about our wonderful students. Thanks to the staff who supervised throughout the camp.
Facilities Upgrade - Building 3 Upstairs.
Planning for our $1.5M upgrade of buildings as pledged by the current state government is continuing. We plan to have removalists in at the end of term to help vacate the rooms in preparation for the redevelopment.
Student Free Day - Friday 3rd November
Last Friday staff used our student free day to understand the results of NAPLAN, PAT Testing and Brightpath Writing. This information will support staff plan for cohort and individual learning for 2024. We also had the opportunity to be introduced to the new Strategy for Public Education.
The new strategy has a focus on 4 areas of impact: Wellbeing, Equity and Excellence, Learner Agency and Effective Learners.
We will also continue with our improvement journey for Reading and Numeracy.
Class Placements 2024
We are working on the assumption that we will have 12 classes next year, based on predicted enrolments of 225 students.
However, I need to point out that this could change as late as the first day back next year, based on new enrolments or students leaving the school.
The placement process is a very complex and time consuming one. Our aim is to achieve the best possible mix of students in both straight and composite classes. Whilst we like to have children with friends where we can, it is also beneficial for children to mix with new groups of students from year to year.
Your child/ren’s class placement information will be sent home during the last week of term. While we do our best to have all teachers placed by this time, it is not always possible and while your child may know their room number, they may not necessarily know their teacher. I apologise in advance if this is the case.
Thank you to those families that have put any requests in writing.
Reception Transition Visits
Our new Receptions for 2024 commenced their first of three transition visits this week.
I would like to welcome them and their families to Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School. In total, there will be 25 children.
They will be in Rooms 10 and 11 for their transition visits as well as next year.
Special thanks must go to our Year 4 students who will be taking on a mentoring role with the new children.
SAPSASA Cricket
Congratulations to Lachlan and Jayden who will compete in the State Cricket Carnival next week, the 14th - 16th of November. Good Luck Boys!
School Sport - Softball
Congratulations to Sasha who will compete in the Softball State Championships from the 19th - 24th of November.
Year 6 Graduation
This year we have 45 Year 6 students graduating. The Year 6 Graduation evening will be held on Tuesday 12th December in the school gym from 7:30pm, after the students return from their lake dinner cruise.
Further information and invites will be sent out over the coming weeks.
All the best,
Bob
Teagan, a member of Room 4, is a proud Torres Strait Islander. She is from Badu Island and has a strong sense of advocating for the representation of her Culture.
Last term, Teagan went to Aboriginal Community Education Officer Kahlia Miller-Koncz and asked why the Torres Strait Islander flag wasn't represented at the school and if this could be rectified. She was encouraged to speak to Mr Bowden about the matter. Having just completed a Persuasive Writing Unit, Teagan decided to write a letter. What a powerful letter it was. After checking the budget and researching whether a similar flagpole to the two the school already had was available, the problem was solved. Teagan returned to school after the holidays to see the flagpole ready and waiting for her to raise the colours she's so proud of.

Room 18 have been learning about World War 1 and the significance of acknowledging Remembrance Day. We have written acrostic poems and completed a few different artworks, each with the main subject being the red poppy. Did you know the poppy is symbolic to Remembrance Day because millions of soldiers saw the poppies in Flanders Fields on the Western Front and some even sent pressed poppies home in letters?

Transitions are moments in life which involve moving from one stage to another and dealing with the changes that come with them. For our year 6s they will be embarking on a new path in their schooling life; transitioning into high school. Your child will be going through a range of different emotions and you can play an important role to ensure they have a positive experience.
How can I prepare my young person?
Families play an important role in preparing and supporting young people to make positive transitions. You can help equip your young person for the transition to secondary school by:
- planning and getting organised
- visiting the school and encouraging your child to go to any secondary school orientation days/programs
- doing a trial run with travelling to school, including taking public transport and using a travel card
- inviting older siblings or friends to share information about the school system ie. timetable, changing classrooms
- practising ‘what if?’ scenarios
- establishing routines including relaxing and fun activities
- Stay connected and interested in your young person’s learning (Headspace, 2023).
If you would like further information on transition into high school you can visit

Es Campur/ Mixed Ice
Dari Daniel Rm 21
My review on es champur is poor as 1, it tasted gross and 2, all the tastes clashed and as of that I rate es champur 1/5 stars. It had grass jelly (cincau) it also had some buah-buahan (fruits) with some es (ice) and then some susu kelapa (coconut milk) pandan (flavoured syrup) boba (pearls) and finally susu kental manis (sweetened condensed milk).
Review of Es Campur
Dari Keely Rm 21
On the 31st of October the year 6 class tried es campur for the first time. Es campur is an Indonesian dessert, in English it means mixed ice. Es campur has shaved ice, luchee, rambutan, jackfruit, susu kelapa (coconut milk), sagu (pearls) and coco pandan sirup that was just a flavoured syrup. I thought the es campur was ok. Because of all the different smells and flavours mixed together it kind of put me off, but I didn’t finish it. Overall I would give it ****.
The Year 2s have been working on making connections between fractions and division. They were given a paper folding task to see how many different ways they could show a half of a square. Some of our Year 2 mathematicians have claimed there are 6 ways, whilst another thinks there is 11. Try it out and see what you can come up with!

On Thursday the 26th of October rooms 8, 10 and 11 went to the Star Theatre to watch the Pevan and Sarah Concert. Pevan and Sarah make and produce educational videos loved by students all over Australia. We all had an amazing time singing and dancing. Thank you to all the parent helpers who came along.

Royal Life Saving SA's Holiday Swim Program is running again in the December 2023/ January 2024 Summer Holidays! Enrolments are already open.
We have many locations around South Australia and are wanting to get the word out there to the local communities.
I was hoping it would be possible for you to put this flyer in your newsletter a few times between now and the end of the year, so your community has the opportunity to enrol their children if they wish.
Many schools and communities have been sharing the flyer on their social media platforms as well.
Holiday Swim is a Royal Life Saving Society South Australia initiative bringing affordable and educational swimming and water safety lessons to pools and inland waterway locations across Metro and Regional South Australia since the 1950’s. The aim of the program is to teach children critical life saving skills and basic swimming skills, to equip them with the knowledge to stay safe in, on and around the water.
The aim of keeping the program affordable, is to reach families and communities that might otherwise miss out on the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons, and as we approach the busy Summer months now is the time to equip them with the knowledge to save a life.
The program will be returning in December 2023 and January 2024 with the newly adapted Royal Life Saving Swim & Survive program.
Royal Life Saving also offer pathways into the aquatic industry with their ICONIC Bronze Awards. The Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross , Award of Merit and Distinction levels are designed for those wanting to further their knowledge and skill set, before moving into the aquatic industry as Lifeguards and Swim Teachers within the local communities.
We appreciate your help in spreading the word.
