Dear Families,
We are quickly moving towards the end of the year. We have lots of activities planned in the last few weeks, including our End of Year Concert (5th December), High School transitions (7th and 8th Dec), Year 4 & 5 Surf Ed (7th and 8th December) and our Year 6 Graduation (12th December). Our Year 6 graduates will attend a dinner cruise on West Lakes followed by a formal ceremony at school.
I was so pleased to have positive feedback about our Rugby teams who have recently participated in the state tournaments. Our year 6 Rugby League tackle team displayed our school values throughout the tournament and received the “Disciplined Award”. Miss Olivia and Miss Nelson were more than impressed with their efforts and their positive attitude.
What a great opportunity for our students to attend the Vailo Adelaide 500 yesterday. By all accounts the students had a great day and represented our school well. Special thanks to the Year 4-6 teachers who organised the excursion and an even bigger thank you to their parent volunteers who braved the weather to support our students. We are very grateful!
Our year 6 students had the opportunity to celebrate their learning by attending an Indonesian restaurant (Pondok Daun) on Tuesday night. This tradition started with Bu Karen and has been continued by Bu Emma. They had a great time trying the various options on the menu.
It's great that the Department for Education has decided that ocean based activities can resume. This will enable our year 4 and 5 students to attend Surf Ed lessons on Friday 7th and 8th December at Grange beach. Surf Ed is a great programme to help students understand beaches and water safety.
To support the program, extra safeguards will be put in place by State Emergency Service (SES), Surf Life Saving SA (SLSSA) and the Department for Education (DfE):
- SES aerial patrols
- SLSSA instructors to reinforce shark evacuation procedures at the start of Surf Education activities
- DfE to require ocean-based activity providers to review their risk assessment procedures and responses.
Where students and their parents/carers don’t feel comfortable taking part in ocean-based activities, these students can take part in alternative activities. Please feel free to see me with any concerns.
Reception Transition Visits
Our new Receptions for 2024 have now completed their 3 transition visits. The feedback and observations have been excellent.
Our Year 4 mentors have done an outstanding job in supporting these new children.
It has been wonderful to see the efforts that they have put in and the positive relationships that they have already formed.
End of Year Concert
Sausage sizzle notes have been distributed to all. Pre-orders must be returned by Wednesday 29th November. Thanks to Governing Council members who have volunteered to cook the BBQ.
