Dear Families,
Welcome back to another busy term. By now you should have received a copy of our Term 3 Planner, and as you would have seen, we have a number of things coming up this term: School Enrolment Tours, Volunteer Induction, Book Week in Week 5, SSO Week, Year 3 AFL Max Sleepover, Father’s Day Stall, Sports Day and to finish the term off…..our DISCO!!
We also have a number of class excursions coming up throughout the term. For classroom teachers to be able to plan excursions, we rely on parent volunteers to be able to attend to help out. All helpers need to attend a Volunteer Induction here at school as a once off, complete an online RRHAN (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect) course and get a Working with Children Check (WWCC) which can be done through the school. We have a Volunteer Induction session coming up on Wednesday 20th August at 9am, which I would encourage you to attend if you are interested in helping out in any way. We would hate to have to cancel any upcoming excursions because we do not have enough parent volunteers to help.
Staffing Updates
I am sad to say that we are farewelling one of our SSOs, Simone today. Simone has worked at Le Fevre PS for the past 7 years in a variety of roles. She has worked in our Inclusive Education class for many years, as well as supported students across all mainstream classes. She has been a wonderful asset to our school, displaying kindness and patience with our student’s every day. I would like to thank her for her dedication and hard work, and I wish her all the best moving forward.
We also welcome Charley and Chad, two SSOs who have started with us. We hope they enjoy their time with us and find the role a rewarding experience.
Upstairs Redevelopment
By now you would have heard that our upstairs classrooms that we have been refurbishing have opened, with classes starting in there at the beginning of this term. Our year 4-6 teachers and students have loved moving into the new space, commenting on how amazing it now looks, and enjoying the new furniture that we have purchased as well. You might have noticed that the temporary fencing has come down and the builders are just finishing off the last few details before we can open up the new entrance. We have appreciated everyone’s patience over the last 6 months, whilst the building works have been happening. The slight inconvenience has definitely been worth it in the long run.
Book Week
In week 5, we are celebrating Children’s Book Week, where the theme for this year is ‘Book an Adventure’. Our Book Week Committee have been busy planning different events throughout the week. On Tuesday 19th August, we have our whole school Dress Up Parade at 9am. It would be lovely if you could come and join us for this fun filled event. We have a scavenger hunt planned, pop up activities at lunchtimes, as well as whole school performances on the Friday. Once again this year we will be hosting the ‘Scholastic Book Fair’ from Friday 15th August – Wednesday 20th August. It will be held in Room 3 and will be open from 8:30 – 8:45am and again from 3 – 3:30pm.
Bullying No Way! National Week of Action
Next week (week 4) is Bullying No Way! National Week of Action, where the theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.' Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. While parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted. Classes will be doing lessons throughout the week to acknowledge and learn about what they can do to address bullying behaviours.
Kind regards,
Leah

Year 6 Literacy and Science: Should Animals Be in Zoos?
This term, our Year 6 students combined literacy and science in a persuasive writing unit focused on the idea; “Should Animals Be Kept in Zoos?”
Using the text “Should Animals Be in Zoos?”, students explored a range of persuasive techniques, including emotive language, rhetorical questions, facts and statistics and the crescendo. They also strengthened their paragraph writing skills by using the Single Paragraph Outline to structure their ideas clearly and effectively.
They explored arguments for and against zoos, developed their own opinions, and wrote powerful persuasive texts to share their views. It was a great opportunity to link writing with real-world issues and scientific thinking. We are really proud of our writing!
