Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to the families who attended Parent-Teacher Interviews throughout the week. It’s always a great opportunity to speak to the class teachers and discuss the learning progress that your child is making. Should you have any concerns about your child’s learning please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher.
Written reports will be distributed at the end of Term 2.
Harmony Week
Throughout last week we celebrated Harmony Week. The theme of “Everybody Belongs” is about recognising the success of Australia’s multicultural society and the benefits of cultural diversity and belonging. We had a huge number of children and staff wear an orange piece of clothing to acknowledge the day.
There were so many highlights during the week, but for me, I really appreciated the special cultural lunch supplied by rooms 20, 21 and 22 students.
Special thanks to our Harmony Day Committee who put a tremendous amount of effort into making the week such a success.
Kyton's Easter Fundraising Drive
A big thank you to our Parent Group for organising our Easter Fundraising Drive through Kyton's Bakery. It was very well supported by our families and friends and we managed to raise $650. Thank you to the Parent Group for organising this successful fundraiser.
Picking Students up Early
A reminder that it is school policy when picking up a student early to come through the front office and sign the student out. It is preferable that prior arrangements are made with the class teacher.
School Sports
It’s really encouraging to see so many of our students participating in a variety of sports.
I was extremely impressed with our year 5/6 students who attended Shark Cup Baseball at Seaton HS on Wednesday. The girls will participate in the Shark Cup Softball in week 11 after it was postponed last week. The students demonstrated our values of Respect, Responsibility and Effort. Special thanks to the Seaton HS students who managed this event and trained our students over the past month.
I always enjoy watching students playing and being involved in school sport.
Good luck to Sasha and Tamika who will participate SAPSASA Softball State Carnival that is being held next week at West Beach.
District Athletics Day
Congratulations to the students who were selected in our school athletics team. I was really impressed with their positive attitude throughout the day. Congratulations to the following students who performed well winning ribbons; Ryker, Samuel, Cahlim, Isaac, Indiana, Charotte D and Bostyn.
Thank you to Amanda Nelson for selecting the team and also to Mr McGorman who helped supervise the team on the day.
Student use of mobile phones and personal devices policy
The department’s position is that primary aged students cannot use their mobile phones and personal devices at school during school hours and on school property. The department and the school recognise that there are legitimate reasons for students to bring a mobile phone or personal device to school. This may include:
- to ensure their safety while travelling
- so that parents can contact them outside of school hours.
During the school day students are not permitted to access or use their mobile phones or other personal devices. Students must switch off or mute their devices before storing them at the beginning of the school day. They will not be able to access their device until the end of the school day.
Storage of personal devices
Mobile phones and personal devices must either be kept in students bags or given to the teacher to be stored in a secured location until the end of the day.
Please refer to our full mobile phone policy link on our website.
Attendance Award
Congratulations to Nate from Year 3 in Room 5 for his 100% attendance for the 9 weeks of Term 1!
Enjoy the weekend.
Regards,
Bob

On Friday, Room 22 had a shared lunch to celebrate Harmony Week. By the end we were all in a food coma as the dishes on offer were all so delicious.
We tried Behon, a Filipino Noodle dish, Potato fritters, polish sausage, Italian scrolls and Adobo, a Filipino fried pork. We also had Nasi Goreng, sticky rice and Moo Ping (Thai pork skewers). Za'atar (Lebanese herb bread) and Himbushaan (Ethiopian bread) were tried by everyone. Kangaroo sticks and fried rice were also on offer.
For dessert we were also spoilt with 2 types of fairy bread, damper with quandong jam and scones with jam and cream. Tim Tams and cupcakes were also a hit. Gulab jamun (Indian dessert) Caramello Koalas, lamingtons and delicious lemon and chocolate sorbet were eaten too.
Reubin liked the Zaatar because it tasted a bit like garlic bread.
Tyler, Jaikobe and Lachie loved the nasi goreng because it was really nice.
Ivy tried Kangaroo for the first time and loved it because of all of its flavour.
Charlee tried lots of new things but couldn't choose a favourite.
Emerson thought the pizza scrolls were the best followed by sorbet.
Everyone had an amazing time and loved trying all the new dishes.
Thanks to all the parents for your support.
Ms Leaney and Room 22 students.
Our Year 6 students learnt about cultural diversity across their classes with a shared lunch including signature dishes from their chosen country. It was a fabulous way to acknowledge that everyone belongs and celebrate Harmony Day!
As we are beginning to approach the end of Term 1, we would love to share with you some of the amazing learning we have been doing in Year 3. It has certainly been busy. In week 7 and 8, we completed our first NAPLAN. We are very proud of the efforts all students put in. In week 8, we celebrated Harmony week. We buddied up with the year 6 students and spent Tuesday afternoon engaging in a variety of fun activities with them, discussing the diverse range of students and families we are lucky enough to have in our classes. Students especially enjoyed icing and decorating their Harmony Day biscuits and being invited to the Year 6’s shared lunch.
In English, we are learning about Persuasive texts. This week, we have gotten into groups and are creating an ad persuading people why they should come to our school. We have loved planning and filming our ad’s ready to show Mr Bowden. We are focussing on the importance of ending our ad’s with impact.
In Maths, we have continued working on Place Value. Students completed the 'Deca Tree Investigation' which had them working with numbers up to 1 million. We have also been researching populations of Australian States and Territories and comparing the capacity of different stadiums in Australia.
Across both Year 3 classes, we have been following the life cycle of our Year 3 pet, Caidance the Caterpillar. In week 7, Caidance cocooned and in week 8, turned into a beautiful butterfly. Students researched the life cycle and how we could best look after Caidance while she was in our care. All year 3 students gathered in the Vegetable Garden at our school to release Caidance onto the Apple Tree.
This term Room 8 have been learning about the history of our school. Did you know our school is 167 years old?
Incredible isn’t it!
We have used photos of the school from various points in time and compared them to how the school looks now. We noticed building 1 did not have external doors from the classrooms to outside. Progressively, doors were installed and were bright yellow wood. They changed again to metal with glass as we see them today. Where the COLA and pirate ship currently sit, the first building of Le Fevre Peninsula PS was constructed out of stone. This was then demolished in 1966 and a raised garden area was created which had a sandpit and playground.
The school also had an original brick gym with wooden floors. This was knocked down and a green shed and more handball courts were created along Semaphore Road.
We have thoroughly enjoyed looking at some of the changes and talking about school ‘in the olden days’. If you would like to know more, please ask any of us in Room 8 or come and see the photos.
Music - Woodville High School Stage Band
On the 9th of March 2023, the Woodville HS stage band came to our school (Le Fevre Peninsula Primary).
I liked the sound of the music and I also liked how they told everyone how the instruments worked, what they were and how to play them. My favourite instruments were the drums and the saxophones. Overall I think it was a great experince and I really enjoyed it, even though I don’t really like that type of music. Blake G
On Thursday the 9th March, all grades went and saw the Woodville High School stage band perform in the gym. There were lots of different instruments like brass, some woodwind, percussion and strings and mainly brass instruments. We learned lots of new things about music and the instruments, like a flute used to be made out of wood. Everyone really liked the performance and I hope they’ll come and perform again. Sasha
It was amazing, thank you we loved it, and we are all happy that you performed for us. I hope one day I will be just as good as you. Olivia R
I enjoyed the performance a lot. I would really like it if they could come back to our school to do another concert just like that one. It was an amazing experience that some kids don’t get. Layla
My favourite part was when an example was given for some of the instruments. To be more specific, when they played a little tune to demonstrate what the keys sounded like when played in a certain order. Indiana
I think audience etiquette should be exactly as displayed, which is staying calm, focussing, showing respect and clapping to show you enjoyed it. Indiana
Audience etiquette is looking at what is going on at the front, focussed listening skills, paying attention and clapping when the performance has ended. Keeley
On Friday the 17th of March, Sasha, Keeley, Miss Jones, and Miss Leah went to the Convention Centre for National Young Leaders’ Day as Sasha and I were selected as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of our Executive Committee. We got to meet 5 Australian presenters which were Gemma Houghton, Nathan Luff, Jodie Oddy and Andrew Hayes as well as Anthony 'Harries' Carroll and our dance teacher Ezra. We thought it was cool to meet an actual author, radio presenters, a 'Bondi Rescue' star and an AFLW superstar. We learnt a lot about their life and a lot about when they were kids and how they got to where they are today. Most of them had great stories and some had stories that were really hilarious. Sasha’s favourite speaker was Nathan Luff because he told a lot of funny stories about him and his bothers. Keeley’s favourite speaker was Jodie Oddy because she gave a lot of life learning lessons. We loved the part where we got to have a photo with our AFLW idol Gemma Houghton and got her autograph. Overall, our favourite part was where we got to dance out all of our energy with Ezra!
